When Everything Looks Fine, But Drinking Feels Harder Than It Should

This episode is part of my SSK Member Story series, where women share what drinking was really like before they stopped—and what finally helped change stick.

Today I’m talking with Sarah, who is almost 200 days alcohol-free. Sarah spent 15 years as a CFO working intense hours, raising kids, carrying a huge amount of pressure, and using wine to cope with the stress, resentment, exhaustion, and mental load.

And what I love about this conversation is how honest it is.

Because Sarah didn’t have some dramatic “rock bottom.” From the outside, her life looked successful and together. But inside, she kept waking up with anxiety, regret, and the same thought over and over:

“I can’t keep doing this.”

The Question So Many Women Are Asking

What do you do when you look like you have everything together, but alcohol is quietly becoming the thing that keeps pulling you back?

This Episode Is For You If…

✅ You keep promising yourself you’ll only have one glass of wine, then end up having three or four.

✅ You’ve done Dry January or taken breaks, but always slide back into the same drinking patterns.

✅ You wake up with anxiety, regret, or the “what did I say?” feeling after drinking.

✅ Date nights, vacations, lake weekends, or dinners out feel like your biggest drinking triggers.

✅ You know alcohol is making life harder, but the idea of stopping feels scary, lonely, or way too big.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode

❇️ Why drinking can get worse after life slows down or pressure changes

❇️ How wine becomes a way to cope with resentment, stress, and exhaustion

❇️ Why moderation can feel possible for a while, then suddenly fall apart

❇️ The role anxiety plays in the drink-regret-repeat cycle

❇️ How drinking affects marriage, communication, and conflict

❇️ Why 30 days alcohol-free often isn’t enough to change the pattern

❇️ How support, sober treats, rest, and community helped Sarah get to 200 days

The Shifts That That Helped Sarah Finally Change 💫

💫 She stopped making drinking about willpower and started treating it like something that needed real support.

💫 She gave herself permission to lower the bar and make not drinking the only goal.

💫 She used sober treats, rest, walks, quit lit, and alcohol-free drinks to get through hard moments.

💫 She stopped forcing herself into triggering situations before she was ready..

💫 She told the truth to her husband, her friends, and the SSK community instead of trying to do it silently.

You’re Not Failing—You May Just Need More Support

If you’ve been trying to moderate for years, taking breaks, starting over, and wondering why it still feels so hard, I want you to hear this:

You are not weak. You are not broken. And you are definitely not the only one.

Sometimes the biggest shift happens when you stop trying to quietly manage it alone and finally give yourself the structure, support, and permission to do this differently.

Sarah’s story is honest, relatable, and full of those “oh my gosh, that’s me” moments.

Tune in to hear how she moved from waking up anxious and stuck in the cycle to feeling calm, proud, and almost 200 days alcohol-free.
