The Wake-Up Call I Didn’t See Coming
Have you ever looked like you had everything under control while quietly falling apart inside?
Have you ever thought, “I’m fine. I just need to get through this.”
Or maybe…
“I don’t want to be difficult.”
“I don’t want to inconvenience anyone.”
This episode is for you.
Today, I’m sharing a much more personal story than I usually do. What was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime family trip ended with three broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a hospital stay — and it forced me to confront something I’d been minimizing for years.
This isn’t really a story about a vacation gone wrong.
It’s about people-pleasing.
It’s about powering through pain.
It’s about how easy it is to ignore your own needs while making sure everyone else is comfortable.
And it’s about why those patterns matter so much when you’re building an alcohol-free life.
If you’ve ever been the woman who takes care of everyone else, minimizes how hard things are, or keeps saying “I’m okay” when you’re anything but, I think this conversation will resonate deeply.
The Question So Many Women Are Asking
Why do I keep pushing through exhaustion, stress, and pain instead of taking care of myself — and how could that eventually pull me back toward drinking?
This Episode Is For You If…
✅ You’ve gotten really good at pretending you’re fine — even when you’re exhausted.
✅ You tell yourself, “I don’t want to be a burden.”
✅ You always put everyone else’s needs ahead of your own.
✅ You wonder why you still struggle with people-pleasing, even after you’ve stopped drinking.
✅ You’re trying to build a life where you don’t have to escape with wine anymore.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode
❇️ Why people-pleasing and over-functioning can quietly keep you stuck in emotional survival mode
❇️ The surprising connection between burnout, self-neglect, and protecting your sobriety
❇️ Why staying in the emotional “red zone” for too long makes drinking feel much more tempting
❇️ Four practical tools that helped me through one of the hardest seasons I’ve experienced and how they also apply to early sobriety
❇️ Why asking for help is a skill that can strengthen both your relationships and your recovery
❇️ How the community carried me when I couldn’t be the one holding everyone else up
❇️ Why your pain deserves compassion. Not because you’re weak, but because you’re human
The Shifts That Change Everything
❤️🩹 You don’t have to earn rest by pushing yourself to the breaking point.
❤️🩹 Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s one of the most important ways to protect your sobriety.
❤️🩹 Being strong doesn’t mean suffering in silence.
❤️🩹 The people who love you often want to help—you simply have to let them.
❤️🩹 Life doesn’t have to be perfect for your alcohol-free life to be worth it.
What I Want You to Remember
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that life doesn’t suddenly become easy because you stopped drinking.
Sometimes you do everything “right,” and life still throws something completely unexpected your way.
That doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It doesn’t mean sobriety isn’t working.
It doesn’t mean you should go back to drinking.
It simply means you’re living a real life.
If you’re in a difficult season, pay attention to how you’re treating yourself. Notice whether you’re minimizing your own pain, pretending you’re okay, or believing you have to carry everything alone.
Because those are the moments when support matters most.
And those are also the moments when alcohol promises relief—but only creates another problem.
How To Stop Performing And Start Taking Better Care Of Yourself
If you’re feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or stuck trying to hold everything together, I hope this episode reminds you that you don’t have to do it alone.
You don’t have to keep performing “fine.”
You don’t have to earn support.
And you certainly don’t have to drink your way through a hard season.
Tune in to hear the full story, the lessons I’m still learning in real time, and the practical tools that can help you care for yourself with more compassion while protecting the life you’re building without alcohol.
