Life Without Alcohol Feels Better Than I Ever Expected: Trisha’s Story

What happens when alcohol becomes part of everything?

Not because you’re drinking all day. Not because you’ve hit a dramatic rock bottom.

But because it’s woven into your evenings, your marriage, your friendships, your vacations, and the way you unwind after a long day.

That’s where Trisha found herself.

She’s a registered nurse, mom of three, and someone who spent years believing she just needed to figure out how to control her drinking. Alcohol wasn’t ruining her life. In many ways, it felt like part of a life she loved.

But over time, the drinking that once felt fun became something else. Something she relied on. Something she couldn’t seem to stop thinking about. Something that no longer aligned with the person she wanted to be.

In this conversation, Trisha shares the painful moment with her daughter that finally made her realize she couldn’t keep going the way she was, how she navigated getting sober while her wife continued to drink, and what surprised her most about life without alcohol.

Today, she’s more than 500 days alcohol-free.

And the thing she wants women to know is this:

She thought alcohol was making her life better.

She never expected life without alcohol to feel this good.

The Question So Many Women Are Asking

What if alcohol feels like such a big part of your life that you can’t imagine being happy without it—and what actually happens when you stop drinking anyway?

This Episode Is For You If…

✅ You wake up determined not to drink, but somehow end up drinking again by evening.

✅ You keep telling yourself you just need to learn how to moderate.

✅ You feel ashamed of your drinking but don’t think your situation is “bad enough” to quit.

✅ You’re scared that stopping drinking will change your marriage, friendships, or social life.

You secretly wonder if life without alcohol would feel boring, lonely, or empty.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode

❇️ How Trisha went from years of stopping and starting to more than 500 days alcohol-free

❇️ The painful wake-up call that made her realize alcohol was no longer aligned with the life she wanted

❇️ Why moderation felt harder than quitting drinking altogether

❇️ How alcohol slowly became part of everything—stress relief, connection, celebration, and daily routine

❇️ What helped her navigate a marriage where her partner still drinks

❇️ Why community and support made such a huge difference in early sobriety

❇️ How learning to face grief, stress, and difficult emotions without alcohol helped her build confidence and self-trust

❇️ The surprising ways life became bigger, richer, and more connected after she stopped drinking

    The Shifts That Change Everything

🌼 From “I need to figure out how to control it” to “I don’t have to keep doing this.”

Trisha spent years believing the answer was moderation. What changed was realizing she didn’t need to keep fighting the same battle over and over.

🌼 From numbing emotions to understanding them.

Many of the feelings she had spent years drinking over—grief, abandonment, fear, unworthiness—didn’t disappear when she stopped drinking. But she finally had the space to process them instead of avoiding them.

    🌼 From isolation to connection.

The opposite of the drinking cycle wasn’t perfection. It was connection — with other women, with her family, and with herself.

🌼 From surviving the day to actually being present in it.

Instead of counting down to her next drink, she began noticing her life again—relationships, experiences, gratitude, and possibilities she never would have considered before.

    🌼 From self-loathing to self-respect.

One of the biggest gifts of sobriety wasn’t external. It was waking up and no longer hating herself.

What I Want You to Remember

If you’re listening to this and wondering whether you can really do it, Trisha’s story is such an important reminder:

✅ You do not have to hit a dramatic rock bottom.

✅ You do not have to wait until everything falls apart.

✅ And you do not have to know exactly how you’ll get there.

You only need to be willing to take the next step.

The women I talk to all the time think they’re giving something up when they stop drinking.

What they discover is that they’re getting something back.

    💛 Their mornings.

    💛 Their confidence.

    💛 Their relationships.

    💛 Their peace of mind.

💛 Their ability to trust themselves again.

And as Trisha says in this conversation, life without alcohol feels better than she ever expected.

If you’re tired of starting over, I hope you’ll listen to this episode and hear what’s possible for you too.
